Will it take up much of my time?
No, we will email you two or three times a year with an invitation to reply by email to a short consultation on a particular issue. The questionnaire will take you no more than 10-15 minutes to complete on each occasion.
Why should I get involved?
One of the GTCW’s main roles is to provide advice on behalf of the teaching profession in Wales. While we do this by working with teacher unions, local authorities, teacher training colleges and others, we think it is vital that the voice of the individual teacher is heard.
Regardless of the phase you teach in, where you live or your experience, we want you to have a means of influencing decision making. This is your chance to have your say and make your opinion heard.
We want to hear from all teachers, including newly qualified teachers, supply teachers, experienced teachers, peripatetics, heads, deputies or retired teachers – in fact anybody who is registered with GTCW.
What issues might you ask me about?
You may not realise but the Welsh Assembly consults on a whole range of issues relating to teaching and learning. For example, previous consultations have included:
- a provision for persons who are not qualified as teachers to actually “teach” pupils
- the arrangements for Induction, NPQH, the Foundation phase and Welsh Language provision
- different ways to qualify as a teacher
When the Assembly consults on such matters, we want to hear your views, which will in turn influence the GTCW’s response to the Assembly on behalf of teachers in Wales. Likewise, if Estyn or another organization in Wales consults on an area of relevance to teaching, we would like your views.
GTCW also from time to time develops its own specific advice to the Assembly and others on a key teaching and learning issue. For example, in the past we have researched and advised on:
- CPD
- the recruitment of teachers and their retention within Wales
- the new Estyn inspection framework
Can I opt out at anytime?
