Professional Development Framework
Background
In late 2003, the Welsh Assembly Government invited the Council to take the lead, working with other partners, to develop a Professional Development Framework for teachers in Wales. The legislative basis for the Council’s work in respect of the professional development of teachers is covered by the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998, which states the following responsibilities:
- to advise the National Assembly for Wales and other designated bodies on the training, career development and performance management of teachers (paraphrase of Paragraph 2(2)(d))
- at the request of the Welsh Assembly Government, to undertake activities designed to promote recruitment to the teaching profession and the Continuing Professional Development of teachers (paraphrase of Paragraph 9(2))
Development of advice to the Assembly
The Council has issued the following formal advice to the Assembly:
