Teacher Statistics

The Council’s Register of Qualified Teachers provides a unique source of data about the teaching profession in Wales and consequently we are regularly asked to provide statistical analysis to a number of organisations and other stakeholders to do with the teaching profession.

The Council also believes that other individuals concerned with the teaching profession may find this information interesting and consequently this section of our website is dedicated to highlighting some of the most popular analyses carried out.

The Register of Qualified Teachers in Wales

In order to undertake the specified work of a qualified teacher in Wales, a teacher must be registered with the Council and consequently, the Council’s Register of Qualified Teachers provides a unique source of information about the composition of the teaching profession in Wales.

The information that the Council is able to hold, if available, is set out in legislation and includes a teacher’s personal details, employment information, qualifications and professional development.

The Council selects those data fields which it considers to have a high level of accuracy and completeness for inclusion in its annual Digest of Statistic
